Lowering Drug Costs During Tough Times

Affordable medicine is always a challenge, and more so during a pandemic and economic downturn. That’s why United Way of Hampshire County is connecting our communities with medicine savings offered through FamilyWize.

FamilyWize is a nonprofit focused on improving health and well-being. They offer:

  • free customer support to help coordinate prescription medication delivery from participating pharmacies

  • savings on medications by using the free FamilyWize prescription program card

We have partnered with FamilyWize for years. Last year alone, 3,124 Hampshire County residents saved over $178,000 through FamilyWize. This was up 50% from the year before, do in part to the growing need during COVID-19. For nearly 15 years, FamilyWize has partnered with United Way communities across the county. Nationwide, 4,695,538 people saved almost $290,000,000 last year.

“It’s important that people continue taking care of themselves, especially now,” says John Bidwell, Executive Director of United Way of Hampshire County. “FamilyWize is helping people get the support they need to access pharmacy delivery and get more affordable medicine. They are amazing.”

The free FamilyWize prescription savings card immediately lowers the cost of prescription medications by an average of 45%. It can be used whether or not you have insurance. The FamilyWize card can be used at most major retail pharmacies. Registration is not required and there is no eligibility criteria.
